Hong Kong Studio + Newsroom, 2022

► animation best enjoyed with sound!
CMG Hong Kong’s studio and newsroom facility is located in a tower overlooking Kowloon Bay — in masterplanning, the station leaders’ offices and open work area are given this prioritized view. The studio, in turn, becomes a gem within the newsroom; half its partition is glass, encouraging views in and shots out, highlighting the interactivity between these elements of the organization.
Perhaps counter to first intuition, the studio’s own view to the bay is occluded by a solid scenic shell, the form of which draws inspiration from the interlocking curves of the CMG brandmark. Critically controlling the amount of daylight entering the studio, this shell also holds the main LED display. The flexibility provided with this decision allows a recreation of the view, as headline graphics can be displayed over a streamed image of the bay (with perfect weather conditions) or any other relevant background.
Three tracking, pivoting LED screens and a touchscreen monitor offer further versatility as they are repositioned to frame multiple stand-up shots toward the control room, newsroom, or as a relationship across from the main desk.
